Abstract

1,181,533. Hot gas engines. J. P. RENSHAW. Feb. 20, 1967, No. 7898/67. Heading F1S. [Also in Division F4] A hot gas engine has a power piston 20, 63 and a displacer piston 23, 61 reciprocably mounted within a cylinder, two rods 28, 29 connected each to a respective one of the pistons, driving gear connected to each of the rods for translating the reciprocating motion of the rods to rotary motion, a varying radius gear train 57, 58, 60 having a first varying radius gear means connected to rotate with the driving gear for the power piston, a second varying radius gear means connected to rotate with the driving gear for the displacement piston and a third varying radius gear means connected to rotate in driving relationship with the first and second varying radius gear means. Heat is supplied to the top of the cylinder and to the heating elements 87 by means such as a burner or electrical heating elements.
