Abstract

707,443. Refrigerating. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Dec. 21, 1949 [Dec. 24, 1948], No. 32730/49. Class 29 [Also in Group XXVII] In a refrigerating engine or heat pump in which similar working spaces are provided on each side of each. reciprocating member communication between a hot space and the associated cold space is effected by one or more ducts or channels having stationary boundary walls. In Fig. 1, a hot space 4 communicates with a cold space 5 by way of a heater 8 regenerator 9 and cooler 10 while a second hot space 6 communicates with a cold space 7 through a heater 11 regenerator 12 and cooler 13. The heaters are heated by supplying a heating medium to an annular space 16 and the coolers are cooled by supplying a cooling medium to an annular space 17. The pistons are not fitted with piston rings. Fig. 5 shows a modification comprising bellows 30, 31 instead of pistons, a hot space 6 communicating with a cold space 7 by way of a heater 32 regenerator 33 and cooler 34 located between the bellows. The hot space 4 communicates with the cold space 5 in a manner similar to that of Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 show a refrigerating engine comprising members 1, 2 connected to the walls of cylinders in which they are mounted by annular rubber rings 18, 19. As shown in Fig. 4, the freezers associated respectively with the freezing spaces 4 and 6 are comprised by spaces 21, 26. It is stated that the annular space comprising the freezers may be divided into two parts only. The centre lines of the reciprocating members may be inclined to one another. Each piston rod may carry a plurality of pistons.
