Abstract

Dihydrostreptomycin is stabilized in aqueous solution by the addition of a buffering agent, e.g. citrate, phosphate or acetate and one or more substances selected from a salt of sulphurous acid, a salt of hydrosulphurous acid and an aldehyde addition product thereof as a stabilizing agent. Preferably the pH is adjusted to pH 5.0 to 8.0. Specified stabilizers are sodium bisulphite, sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, potassium metabisulphite and sodium hydrosulphite. Instead of a dihydrostreptomycin salt such as the sulphate or hydrochloride and a buffer, the citrate salt of dihydrostreptomycin may be used at a pH 5.0-8.0 without added buffering agent. The citrate may be produced by neutralizing the dihydrostreptomycin base with citric acid to pH 5.0 to 5.5.ALSO:Stable aqueous solutions of dihydrostreptomycin salts such as the sulphate and hydrochloride are prepared by adding thereto a buffering agent such as a citrate, phosphate or acetate buffer, and one or more substances selected from a salt of sulphurous acid, a salt of hydrosulphurous acid and an aldehyde addition product thereof as a stabilizing agent. The pH of the solution is preferably adjusted to pH 5.0 to 8.0. Specified stabilizers are sodium bisulphite, sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, potassium metabisulphite and sodium hydrosulphite. Instead of a dihydrostreptomycin salt such as the sulphate or hydrochloride and a buffer, dihydrostreptomycin citrate may be used without added buffering agent. The citrate may be produced by neutralizing the dihydrostreptomycin base with citric acid to a pH 5.0 to 5.5.
