Abstract

683,532. Moulding ceramic or concrete pipes. JOHNSON, S. L. July 28, 1950 [July 8, 1949], No. 18055/49. Class 87 (ii). In a pipe-moulding machine of the kind in which a mould packing die 15 is simultaneously rotated and reciprocated, moulds 33 are positioned one at a time between a top locator 27 on the bottom of a hopper 26 and one of a number of bottom locators 28 on a vertically movable platform 29 which may be a turntable. The platform is urged upwardly by a spring 31 to grip the mould. The die 15 is carried by a shaft 14 keyed to slide within a sleeve 13 which is rotated by a motor 3 through a clutch 8 and bevel gears 10, 11. The same motor also drives, through worm gear 16, 17, a cam 19 which, by means of a lever 21 pivoted at 20, reciprocates the die 15 in the mould 33. The cam is shaped to cause the die to dwell for an approximate period of one half-revolution at the top of its stroke, during which period the mould is changed.
