Abstract

118,282. Miller, W. J. Aug. 11, 1917, [Convention date]. Moulding under pressure.-Relates to a rotarytable moulding-machine actuated by fluid pressure. According to the present invention the pressing plunger is prematurely actuated by a piston in a cylinder which can be adjusted vertically for moulds of various heights'. The glass is fed into a mould when in the position shown at the right of Fig. 1. The mould is supported on a block I when it reaches the moulding station. The die P, Fig. 1, is adjustably mounted on a sliding frame N which is connected by adjustable toggle levers 175 with a cross-head 172 carried by the rod 129 of a piston working in a vertical cylinder J supported by the pillars B, C. The cylinder is fitted with an adjustable false end to regulate the movement of the piston and air is first admitted slowly to the upper end of the cylinder to give a slow initial movement and then more rapidly. The air is exhausted from the bottom part of the cylinder through an automatic adjustable valve. The final pressing is effected by the toggle levers. The time during which the die remains in the glass is determined by timing mechanism M of any known kind. After the moulding has been completed, the table moves forward, and when it reaches the discharging position, the mould is turned over by 'a toothed segment H engaging a segment 21 and the finished article is delivered into a suitable receptacle. The cylinder J is supported by a screwed stem 132 which can be adjusted vertically for moulding articles of different lengths.
