Abstract
682,745. Refrigerating. RUHRSTAHL AKT.- GES. Jan. 31, 1951 [Sept. 10, 1949], No. 2439/51. Class 29 Apparatus for cooling the air in mines comprises a waggon in the mine on which is mounted a compressed air motor 2 driving a compressor 1 from which compressed dichlorodifluoromethane passes to a water cooled condenser 4, a supercooler 6 cooled by the expanded air from 'the motor 2, an expansion valve 7 and an evaporator. 3 over which the mine air is blown by a fan 11. Moisture precipitated on the evaporator 3 is sucked through a pipe 13 by the motor exhaust and is atomised into the exhaust air stream. To melt ice crystals in the exhaust air stream, the latter may be mixed with warm air entering through a pipe controlled by a shutter 15 operated by a thermostat in the exhaust air stream. Exhaust from other compressed air motors may also pass through the supercooler 6.
