671,567. Air conditioning. GARRETT CORPORATION.. Feb. 3, 1950 [Feb. 4, 1949], No. 2824/50. Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] In an air cooling system for an aircraft cabin 5 compressed air supplied by a pipe 7 is expanded and cooled by driving a turbine 6 and passes through duct 10 and pipes 12, 13 to the cabin, warm air extracted from the cabin by a fan 16 being mixed with the cold expanded air at 11 to melt any ice particles formed. The warm air passes through a filter 17 and is directed by a thermostatically controlled valve 25 partly to a passage 20 surrounding the pipe 12 to prevent deposition of ice on the inside of the pipe 12 and mix with the air issuing from the turbine at 11, and partly to a passage 21 to mix with the cold air at 42. Moisture is removed from the air by a separator 27, collected in a receptacle 29 and returned to the warmer air by a pipe 30 and a spray nozzle 31 supplied with compressed air from the pipe 7 by a pipe 32 having a valve. 37 controlled by a humidostat 35 in the cabin. The humidostat 35 also controls a valve 40 which allows part of the air in the pipe 12 to byepass the water separator 27. The turbine 6 drives through a shaft 8 work-absorbing means such as a fan for the air.
