Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] The evaporator 21 of refrigerating apparatus used for cooling the air in a room 1 is housed in a compartment 6 inside the room 1 and the motor driven compressor 16 and the condenser 15 are mounted in a compartment 7 outside the room 1, the two compartments being joined by tubular frame members 8, 9 which are adapted to rest on, and be fixed by brackets 26 to the sill 5 of a window opening. Air is drawn into the grilled upper side of the compartment 6 and is recirculated into the room by a fan 22 which directs the air over the evaporator 21, moisture from the cooled air dropping on to the lower surface 20 of the compartment 6 and draining through arms 8, 9 and through the perforated bottom 10 of the compartment 7. A fan 18 in the compartment 7 drives cool air drawn from outside of the building over the condenser 15 to dissipate the heat which the evaporator gains when cooling air within the rooms, a capillary tube 45, or alternatively a valve liquefying restrictor being included in a pressure line 29 which passes through the tube 9 to connect the condenser 16 anc the evaporator 21 so that the temperature of the latter is maintained be low dew point anc above freezing point. The tube I carries a suction line 28 which con nects the evapora tor 21 to the compressor 16, and also the power lines for the electric motors.
