Abstract
631,897. Ventilating mines. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. June. 13, 1947, No. 15628. Convention date, July 13, 1946. [Class 137] [Also in Groups XIII and XXI] An air compressor 1 located at the surface supplies working air to the mine by pipes 2 and this air also drives by a turbine 4 the compressor 5 of a refrigerating machine, located below ground, the evaporator 6 of which cools brine or water circulated by a pump 9 through heatexchangers 11-13 cooling the air supplied to the workings by fans 14-16. As shown the refrigerating machine comprises the turbine compressor 5, condenser 7, expansion valve 8 and evaporator 6, but it may be replaced by a cold air machine. The exhaust from the turbine 4 cools the air from the compressor 1 in a heatexchanger 17 in which moisture is removed from the compressed air and then passes to a heat-exchanger 10 for further cooling the brine or water. The condenser 7 is cooled by water circulated by a pump 20 through a heat exchanger 19 in the ventilation shaft; this water also preheats at 18 the dried air entering the turbine 4 to prevent freezing of the residual moisture in the turbine. The fans 14 ... 16 are driven by air from the pipes 2.
