Abstract
682,735. Padlocks. WORMALD PATENT LOCKS CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950], No. 23359/50. Class 44. A padlock comprises a sliding bolt 3 having an arm 4 closing a slot 2 in the casing 1 and at least two locking tumblers 13, 14 pivoted to the casing at 11 and each spring loaded to bring a locking shoulder 18, 23 thereon into the path of a projection 16 on the bolt, one of the shoulders being further away from the projection than the other and having a notch capable of receiving part of the projection. The underneath tumbler 13, Fig. 5, has a spring 19, a slot 17 for receiving the projection 16 when moved to the unlocking position shown by a key 31 and a stop lug 20 normally abutting the side of the projection to retain the tumbler in a position where its locking shoulder 18 lies against the end of the projection 16. The upper tumbler 14, Fig. 1, is similar except that the shoulder 23 is spaced from the end of a rib 27 on the projection by a gap 24, the slot 17 is narrower to receive the rib 27, and the shoulder 23 has a notch 21 formed therein. The notch prevents picking by receiving the rib 27 and retaining the tumbler 14 when the bolt is displaced after the release of tumbler 13 e.g. by a picking instrument. A guard plate 15 between the tumblers 13, 14 has parts 28 partly surrounding the key pin 10 further to protect the tumblers against picking.
