Abstract

680,559. Endless conveyers. PALETHORPES, Ltd., and PALETHORPE, J. Dec. 5, 1950. [Dec. 7, 1949] No. 31373/49. Class 78 (i). Means for transferring articles from a first moving conveyer to a second moving conveyer comprises a stationary support arranged alongside the first conveyer and across the second conveyer and a push bar arranged along the support and carried by a plate which is guided by means of pins on its underside engaging tracks on the support, such that movement of the plate along the support from one end to the other is accompanied by lateral movement which causes the push bar first to move away from the support so as to push the articles from the first conveyer to the second conveyer, and then to move back towards the support, and that return movement of the plate along the support is unaccompanied by lateral movement so that the push bar remains out of contact with approaching articles on the first conveyer. Cooked, or uncooked pies a, Fig. 2, are transferred from an endless belt b to a transversely extending endless belt c by means of a push bar f which is movable in a closed triangular path, corresponding to a pair of triangular guide tracks i, Figs. 2 and 3, in a clockwise direction corresponding to pies moving from right to left along belt b. The push bar f thus moves with the pies on belt b during transfer and returns parallel to belt b and out of the parth of the pies. The bar f is carried by a plate e mounted on balls g running in triangular recesses 2 in a fixed support d on which the guide tracks i are provided. Each guide track i is formed by the peripheries of a triangular recess j and a triangular member k pivotally mounted on a vertical pin and urged anticlockwise by a spring n so as to determine the sense in which a peg h depending from the plate e is guided around the track. As plate e is reciprocated along the support d the two pegs h run along the two inclined sides in the direction of movement of belt b, of each track i, and along the third aligned side of each track i in the reverse direction. A pawl u connected by a strap t to the plate d is adapted to be engaged by a peg x on a supporting pulley v of the belt b to move plate e in the direction of belt b, and after moving the appropriate distance is released from the peg x by a stop y co-operating with an arcuate guide w, plate e being returned to the initial position, Fig. 3, by a weight q acting on a cable r passed over a pulley s and connected to the plate e. The base of each recess 2 for the balls g is of plate glass or like material and similar triangular recesses 3 facing oppositely to each recess 2 are provided in plate e opposite each recess 2 for resting on the balls g and are similarly formed with a glass or like base, the plate e being preferably cut away so that the balls g are visible through the glass of the recesses 3.
