Classes 78 (1) and 104 (2) [Also in Group XXV] A conveyer chain for moving goods or articles is made up of links each comprising a body formed by a rod of elongated loop form embracing and secured to a spindle which extends transversely of the body and on which is loosely mounted, at each side of the body, a guide wheel or roller for the chain, associated ends of adjacent links being articulated together to allow relative up-and-down and relative lateral movement between these links. Figs. 1, 2 show the application to a chain for transporting shoe lasts 16 between stations to be dealt with by different operators. The chain which may be endless, comprises links 3 each provided with pairs of guiding rollers 4 on pins 6 engaging the internal surfaces of a guide-way 1, adjacent links being at right angles to one another. Each pin 6 is inserted into its link 3 through a gap 7 in one limb of the link and after being slid along to the required position, the limbs of the link are compressed a little to hold the pin firmly. The rollers are held on the pins 6 by spring clips. The guideway 1 is built-up of four angle irons 10 connected together by brackets 11 some of which are used for suspending the conveyer from supports 12. These angle irons are spaced to form gaps 13, one of which is used for the passage of carriers 14 which are welded to the appropriate links and support hooks 15 for the lasts 16. If a last is not removed on arriving at a particular station, switch means may be operated to effect stoppage of the chain. In a modification Fig. 4 (not shown). the lasts are supported on pegs upstanding vertically from the chain. Alternatively the pins 6 may be extended so as to form supports. In another modification projections on the chain serve to propel carriages along a rail beneath or alongside the guideway 1.
