Abstract
679,568. Moulding hat covers from thermoplastic material. DUNKERLEY, J. Dec. 5, 1950 [Dec. 5, 1949], No. 31131/49. Class 87(ii) A sheet 14 of thermoplastic material, e.g. rubber chloride, is taken off a reel 13, preheated at 15, and clamped by a member 10 across the mouth of a female mould 4. A hot male member 6 is moved down to press the sheet into the mould 4 and simultaneously air is withdrawn from between the sheet and the mould through a pipe 5. As the clamping member and the male member move upwardly, after moulding, a rack 18 moves upwardly and rotates a roller 16 which causes the moulded article to be removed from the-mould and the next part of the sheet 14 to be drawn across the mould 4. On the next downward stroke of the member 6, a hot knife 20 severs the article from the sheet. Relief valves (see Fig. 2, not shown), are provided in the mould. The Provisional Specification describes also an apparatus in which the male member is stationary and the mould movable.
