Abstract
679,490. Spring upholstery. MARSHALL, J. E. L. Feb. 6, 1951. [Nov. 30, 1949] No. 30681/49. Class 52 (iv). A spring surface for supporting an upholstery pad comprises a base frame having a row of upholstery springs mounted along two opposite edges and an upper upholstery-supporting surface of wire mesh &c. secured to the upper turns of the upholstery springs and supported between the rows of springs by sinuous wire strip members connected at their ends to the base frame. As shown, the base coils of upholstery springs C are secured at the intersections of cross members B of a base frame, one row of springs C being near the top, and the other row near the bottom, of a spring assembly for a back squab of a seat. The upper coils of the springs C are secured to a wire mesh D which is provided with a stuffing edge E. The sinuous-wire strip members F span the base frame and are secured to the wire mesh at spaced points and, at their ends, to the marginal wire A of the base frame. The members F may also be secured to the upper coils of the upholstery springs by clips G.
