Abstract

594,616. Spring upholstery. HELLER, M. June 6, 1945, No. 14246. [Classes 52(i) and 52 (iv)] A resiliently suspended assembly for seats, bunks, &c., comprises a top structure having a downwardly extending support, the lower part of which is linked to a spaced carrier frame 4 by oppositely arranged and tensioned suspension springs 3 which hold the top structure above the level of its suspension, one or more of the ends of the support being recessed so that the suspension springs lie partially or wholly within the area of the top structure. The top structure may be in several sections 1 each provided with supports 2 or formed as a single sheet which may support a fixed or loose cushion and may have an upward extension forming a back. In a modification to form a motor car seat the top structure is spring-upholstered. The support 2 may comprise a rigid block and in a further modification the top structure comprises long and short compression springs the lower ends of the springs being arranged to provide one or more lateral recesses within which the suspension springs extend.
