Class 117 In a screening apparatus of the kind comprising rollers e, a over which the material to be screened passes in a direction transverse to the rollers, the roller a is pivotally supported by bolts c on a shaft b and is adjustable relatively to the roller e by a handwheel h and screw f. A spring is also incorporated in the handwheel mechanism to allow vibratory movement of the roller e. The chain drive v for the rollers includes a fixed sprocket q and a resiliently mounted sprocket q<1>, the latter preventing overstrain of the chain when the position of the roller a is adjusted. The arrangement is such that large pieces of material can be dealt with, without damage to the mechanism, a piece likely to cause a jam between the rollers producing an upward jump of roller a to allow the piece to fall between the rollers, or, if too large, to carry it over the surface of roller a to the " oversize " delivery shoot.
