Abstract

1414316 Orientating cigars VAN DER MOLEN MACHINEFABRIEK BV 12 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 57261/72 Heading B8S Apparatus for feeding cigars 35 to a processing machine (not shown) comprises a hopper 1, of width adjustable to the length of the cigars 35, with a funnel from 2 at its bottom having a discharge aperture 3 for feeding the cigars to a curved guiding channel 36. A plate 8 is mounted on rubber blocks 13 and forms part of the left funnel leg 7, a small slit 9 being kept open. The bottom end of the plate 8 has a curved portion 10 adapted to the curvature of a roller 11. An inverted V leaf spring 33 is attached to the plate 8 and its end 34 is parallel to the circumference of the roller 11 to form therewith the channel 36. A motor 16 is connected to vibrate the plate 8 linearly and to oscillate the roller 11 respectively through rod 15 and shaft 31. After passing through the channel 36 the cigars are oriented longitudinally and drop one by one on to a conveyer belt 12. As shown the cigars 35 are rectangular in cross-section and may land on the conveyer belt 12 on either their broad or narrow sides. A tilting rod 37 provided with tilting rings 38 is disposed above the conveyer belt 12 at such a height as to tilt those cigars 35 on their narrow sides on to their broad sides.
