Abstract

1,082,941. Endless belt conveyers. A. K. McCOMBIE and MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. March 11, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10156/63. Heading B8A. In the conveyance of a mass of cigarettes from one level to a higher level, cigarettes are fed to a vertical conveyer 70 by bands 6, 44 forming a compartment 43. The conveyer 70 comprises bands 71, 72 spaced apart by a dimension limited to substantially 3 inches, and the lower end of the band 72 hangs down freely but carries a cylindrical weight 73 in its bight. The weight is. held against lateral movement by spring guide rollers 82. A fixed guide 74 for the cigarettes extends from the band 44 to the band 72 and further guides are provided by flanges 75 rotatable on a shaft 76 which passes through the hollow interior of the weight 73. A flexible guide 81 spans the gap between the bands 6, 71. The cigarettes are transferred from the conveyer 70 to a hopper 8 of a packing machine (not shown) by a conveyer 57. A pivoted flexible guide 58 turns away skewed cigarettes. Conveyers 157, 257 feed other hoppers (not shown). In a modification, the upwardly arranged conveyer slopes backwards with respect to the horizontal feed compartment, the cylindrical weight is dispensed with and a pulley is supported on a shaft which is adjustable. The apparatus is equally suitable for use with filter rods used in the cigarette trade.
