DEVICE FOR REVERSING PRINTED FORMS.

Be it known that l, EDGAR J. STENNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Reversing Printed Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for reversing printed forms, and is especially adapted for use in connection with job printing presses where the delivering is automatic. In presses of this character the forms after being printed are lifted up and dropped on a table one upon the other with the printed side up, in which event if the forms are numbered consecutively the smaller number is underneath, which is very objectionable. By the use of my present invention the forms are dropped on the device with the printed side up and are then.
turned and fed upon the receiving table one upon the other with the printed side down, leaving the smaller number on top when the pile is reversed.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention showing a form being carried through the rollers, and the position of the same after it has been delivered to the receiving table.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a frame having an adjustable receiving table 2 secured thereto by means of the screws 3. Revolubly mounted in the frame 1 is a roller 4 the shaft of which projects through one side of the frame l and has a wheel 5 thereon to which power is transmitted from any suitable source for operating the device. The rollers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are also revolubly mounted in the said frame 1. A number of cords or belts 12 pass around the rollers 4, 6 and 7 and impinge against the roller 8. Similar cords or belts 13 pass around the rollers 8 and 9.
The rollers 9 and 10 are also provided with cords or belts 14, and the rollers 4 and l1 are provided with the cords or belts 15. Secured to the upper edge of the frame 1 is a guide 16 which projects in front of the roller 7 and just above the roller 8. When the printed forms are lifted from the printing press by the automatic delivery, they are dropped upon the cords or belts 13 with the printed side up in the position shown in Fig. 1. The revolving of the rolle-r 4 will cause all the other rollers and cords and belts to revolve and the printed form 17 will be carried forward under the guide 16 and between the rollers 7 and 8 and 6 and 8 when it will be turned printed side down and then travel along between the cords or belts 12 and 13 to the rollers 4 and 9, passing through the latter, and are carried between the cords or belts 14 and 15 to the rollers 10 and 11 between which the printed form passes and is delivered upon the receiving table 2 with the printed side down, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The table 2 is provided with a. slot 18 and a back 19 against which the printed forms fall as they are dropped on the receiving table, said back 19 being adapted to move back and forth in said slot 18 and is held in the adjusted position by the thumb screw 20. On the under surface of the table 2 is a pivoted arm 21 pivoted at 22 and held to its normal position by the coiled spring 23. The adjustable sides 24 are each connected to an adjustable rod 25 projecting through the slot 26 and adjustably by means of the thumb screws 27. The
rods 25 are connected to the pivoted arm 21, one on each side of the pivot 22. The said arm is also moved by suitable mechanism connected with the printing press (not shown) which causes the sides 24 to move back and forth simultaneously as the printed forms fall on the receiving table, the constant movement of said sides will keep the forms in a. straight pile on said receiving table.
It will thus be seen that when the printing is completed the pile of forms are lifted from the receiving table and reversed which causes the smaller number to be on top.
