of rotation of the gear 18. Thus while the gear 18. always operates to revolve the impression roller with it, the impression roller is eccentrically adjustable to different elevations with respect to the traveling bed.
Mechanism is provided for automatically rotating the shaft 14 to intermittently move the impression roller 13 up and down, this mechanism consisting of a gear rigidly secured onthe eccentric end 15 and meshing with a rack 23, which does not travel with the traveling bed, but has a relatively short movement and is automatically shifted at the end of the stroke of the traveling bed as described in the companion application. The
rack 23 has a projection 24 which when the rack is shifted rides under a roller 25 which is carried on a rock arm 26, which is rigidly secured to a shaft 27, and when the rock arm 26? is actuated it turns shaft 27. Rigidly mounted on shaft 27 are supporting arms 28, in which is journaled a feed roller shaft 29, upon which is mounted feed roller 30, which is adapted to contact with the sheet of paper when the feed roller is depressed and moves the paper into printing position. Rigid on the feed roller shaft 29 is a pinion 31, which meshes withan intermediate idle pinion 32, which in turn meshes with gear 18, so that the feed roller is constantly rotated first in one direction and then in the other corres onding to the reciprocations of the traveling bed.
' In Fig.5, 33' designates the paper which is fed by hand onto an inclined plate 34, which is recessed at to receive a lower idle feed roller 36, and when the feed roller 30 is moved down itrpresses the paper between the feed roller 30 and the feed roller 36 and moves'the paper forward toward the compression roller. One end ofthe roller 36 is mounted in an eccentric bearing 36 shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, which enables the roller'36 to be readily lined up parallel to the feed roller 30. The bearing 36 has attached to its outer end a slotted plate 36", as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The front stops against which the sheets' of paper are manually fed comprise several spring fingers 37, which are carried on a hexagonal cross bar 38, this bar being pivoted in the side frame 39 and at one end carrying a bracket 40, which is actuated through thcinedium of a compression spring 41 moved upwardly by a lateral arm 42 from the rock arm 26 and bolt 43, passing through the lateral arm 42 and a lip 44 on I the bracket 40 to hold the spring 41 in position. Whenever the rock arm 26 is moved upwardly the spring41 yieldingly presses up on the bracket 40, and the latter moves down the spring fingers 37 so that their lower ends project into or slightly through the plate 34 as shown in Fig. 5, and thereby form positive front stops against which rests .of the forward stroke of the traveling bed,
after which afresh sheet is fed into position, so that after the conclusion of the stroke, the sheet is in position and ready to be shot forward by the feed roller when the latter descends at the' commencement of the forward stroke of the traveling bed. As the feed roller thus descends the fingers 37 lift and release the sheet, allowing it to move forward. A screw 45 arranged on the bracket 40 is adapted to strike a stationary lug 46 and limit the upward swing of bracket 40. The rock arm 26 after having been moved up by the projection 24 of the sliding rack is restored by a compres sion spring47, the tension of which is regulated by the screw 48 extending through.

able on cross rod 51, and further supported another cross rod 53. Each box 52 is adjustable along the rods 51 and 53 and is detachably held in position by a thumb screw 54. In order to hold each ejector roller up in proper position, a spring 55 is provided which is coiled around the rod 51, one end of the spring bearing against a pin 56 on the block 50, and the other end bearing on the under side of the box 52. A pair of guide fingers 57 extend under the impression roller 13, the respective fingers extending along the top of the respective boxes 52', and being secured thereto by binding its end over as at 58. The other end of each guide finger is formed with a'hook 59 to en.- gage a flange 60 formed on the lower edge of the plate 34. This construction supports the ends of the fingers 57, and yet permits them vto be slidably adjusted laterally of the machine by loosening the thumb screws 54. The guide fingers are easily accessible from the top of the machines, and in full VlGW.'
They may readily be adjusted laterally of the machine to suit the size of the form so.

In a printing machine, printing means, a plate for guiding the paper toward the printing means, front stops comprising fingers, the lower ends of which are adapted to project. into said plate and arrest the forward edges of the paper, a shaft carrying said fingers, a bracket on said shaft, a rock arm, a compression spring between said rock arm and said bracket, and means ends of which are adapted cooperating With the printing means for tilting said rock arm, a feed roll, arms sup porting the same, a shaft supporting said arms, and means securing the rock arm to said last mentioned shaft and for varying the angular relation of the rock arm to the shaft. I
4.111 a printing machine, the combination of upper and lower feed plates, upper and lower feed rolls, a bail shaft, means for supporting the upper feed roll from said shaft, a post secured to said shaft, means acting on said post for raising the same when not printing and lowering the same when printing, a lateral extension to said post, a stop finger shaft, 11 pacifier bracket carried by said stop finger shaft over said lateral extension and having a sliding connection therewith, and fingers depending from the stop finger shaft and .having their ends adapted to pass through openings in the lower feed plate when the post is raised.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 16th day of July, 1913. Y
