Abstract
678,218. Pressure exchangers. JENDRASSIK, G. July 13, 1950 [July 25, 1949], No. 19557/49. Class 8 (i) A pressure exchanger comprises bearing means common to the cell ring and the end plate and a mounting for the end plate to be axially displaced whereby axial thermal expansion of the cell ring effects equal axial movement of the end plate. A casing 1 contains a cell ring 25 on an expansible shaft 12, 13 mounted on a bearing 11 in the casing at one end and secured at the other end to the inner race of a thrust bearing 10, the outer race of which is secured to an end plate 5 having distribution ducts 16, 18. The plate 5 has a tubular extension 29 slidably mounted in a boss 30 formed on an outer cover 7. An extension 12a of the shaft 12 passes through the extension 29 and is supported by a bearing 31 therein. Tilting of plate 5 is prevented by three pistons 35 in cylinders 34 connected by rods 36 to the end plate 5. The upper cylinders 35 on either side of the high pressure duct 18 are connected by a pipe 57 to high pressure fluid while the lower cylinder is open to atmosphere. The space between the plates 5, 7 is kept at an intermediate pressure. The three pistons may be replaced by a single cylinder acting through linkage. In a modification, Fig. 5, the extension 29, boss 30 and pistons 35 are dispensed with and shafts 43, 44 are supported in the cover 7, arms 49, 50, 51, 52 are secured to the shafts 43, 44 and are connected by links 53, 54, 55, 56 to the end plate 5.
