Abstract

998,519. Steam turbines. SOC. RATEAU & SOC. DES FORGES ET ATLIERS DU CREUSOT. May 24, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 20902/63. Heading FIT. A multi-cylinder turbine set has a number of rotors on a common shaft supported, partly by a movable axial thrust bearing connected to move the stator of at least one cylinder of the turbine, and partly by a fixed thrust bearing positioned near a first cylinder having a fixed stator, to reduce relative axial displacement between the rotor and stator of the first cylinder. A steam turbine set comprises high HP, intermediate MP, and low BP, pressure cylinders with a common shaft. Thrust bearing B<SP>1</SP> is fixed and thrust bearing B is movable and connected by rods to cylinder HP which is similarly connected to cylinder MP. Cylinder MP is freely mounted on feet p independent of cylinders BP. A further similar turbine set, Fig. 5, not shown, is described. The construction reduces the effects of thermal expansion on the axial clearances between the rotor and stators, particularly of cylinders BP.
