Abstract

677,748. Pallets for handling loads. ADDISON-SEMMES CORPORATION. March 21, 1950. [Oct. 28, 1949] No. 7054/50. Class 78 (iv). [Also in Group XVII] A paper board pallet comprises a platform and a plurality of posts secured to one face of the platform. Each post comprises an inner solid walled tube of suitable cross-section and juxtaposed corrugated elements disposed about said inner member with their corrugations substantially perpendicular to the platform, and restrained against radial movement. The legs 6 of the pallet shown in Fig. 2 are formed by winding a strip 8 of corrugated paper board with one flat wall about a paper board tube 7 with solid walls. The convolutions of the strip 8 are secured together and to the tube 7 by an adhesive such as sodium silicate which may be allowed to impregnate the paper board, and the same adhesive may be used to secure the legs to the platform 5 of the pallet. The platform 6 may consist of a sheet of corrugated paper board with flat walls. The walls of the tube 7 are preferably an eighth to a quarter of an inch thick. Analogous materials to paper board, such as straw board or paper stock may be employed. The posts may enclose the legs or other projections of furniture carried by the pallet, as described in Specification 677,750. They may also form spacing members when the pallet is used for packaging in the manner described in Specification 668,090, [Group XVII]. Specification 638,033 also is referred to.
