Abstract
677,339. Cleaning animal gut. TWIGDON, J. C., and MANN, H. June 30, 1950 [July 2, 1949], No 17540/49. Class 28 (ii). Animal gut e.g. for sausages, turned inside out is fed between roller 5, 6 to the nip of a pair of beating rollers 7, 8 having laths 21 which with the help of a fluid (water) effect the cleaning, one of the rollers of each pair of rollers being adjustable by independent handwheels 16 and 27. Springs are included in these adjustments to allow yielding. The gut then falls to a plate 9 which guides it to an outlet 10. The laths are U-shaped and resilient. The peripheral speed of the beating rollers is much faster than that of the feed rollers. A pipe 38 supplies water jet between the ends of the rollers 7, 8. The gut cleaning unit is isolated in an inner casing 18 inside the outer casing 1. The machine gears, on the spindles of each roll end, are protected by being isolated between the casings, all except the feed roll 6 being driven from a motor in the base. Access to the interior is obtained by removable parts 1a and 1b of the outer casing and a removable part 18a of the inner casing.
