Abstract
612,483. Cleaning sausage skins. BITTERLING, E. A. May 25, 1946, No. 15894. [Class 28(ii)] . Apparatus for removing membranes from the surface of intestinal skins comprises two sets of driven rollers 10, 11 and 12, 13 through which the skins pass, the first set being adapted to restrain the skins and the second set being adapted to draw the skins through the first set, and means between the two sets to apply additional tension to the skins at intervals. The additional tensioning means may comprise a laterally reciprocating bar 15, or an eccentric or oval shaft. Roller 21 serves to remove membranes from roller 11 which is rubber covered and fluted. Roller 10 is smooth. Rollers 12, 13 have interengaging teeth, roller 14 being a guide roller. The rollers are driven by gearing arranged in a hollow standard. 36. The skins pass to rollers 10-13 from three sets A, B, C serving to remove mucous from the inside of the skins; sets A and B comprise smooth copper rollers 1 and fluted rubber rollers 2 and beater rollers 55, 56, and set C smooth rubber rollers 3, 4, and a beater roller 57. Jets of water 22, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31, 32 impinge on the rollers.
