559,913. Filter presses. THAMES BOARD MILLS, Ltd., MORLEY, M. H., and BAKER, H. N. June 12, 1942, No. 8027. Addition to 559,909. [Class 46] [Also in Groups VIII, IV and XIII] Fibrous material 1 passes down a shoot 3 to a feed hopper 4 and is traversed through a tubular enclosure 5 by a, screw-conveyer 6 in engagement with one or a succession of toothed wheels 9 which exert pressure on the fibrous material. Steam and water jets 13 and 14 are spaced along the enclosure 5 or alternatively acidic or alkaline washing liquor may be used and the enclosure steam-jacketed. Liquid is expressed through perforations 26 at the outlet end of the enclosure 5 which is of reduced diameter and which may receive a readily interchangeable perforated die-plate so that pressure in the enclosure 5 may be varied to suit the material under treatment.
