Abstract

559,909. Extrusion presses for filtering. THAMES BOARD MILLS, Ltd. MORLEY M. H., and BAKER, H. N.. March 5, 1942, No. 2885. [Class 46] [Also in Groups VIII, IV and XIII] Fibrous material, e.g. as bales 10, is broken up and passed to a cutter 11 from which it is conveyed at 12 to a hopper 13 supplying a feed opening 14 of a casing 15 through which it is traversed by a screw-conveyer 16 to the outlet 26. Steam under pressure is supplied through valves 19, or the casing 15 may be steam-jacketted and digestion liquor e.g. caustic soda, soda ash, lime or sodium sulphite, is supplied through a pipe 8. Excess liquor is drawn off through outlets 31 and may be recycled. The screw-conveyer 16 may extend through the outlet 26, which is smaller than the inlet 14, and which may receive a readily changeable perforated plate.
