Abstract

1,039,883. Pulp supply in paper-making machines. ESCHER WYSS G.m.b.H. Feb. 21, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1962], No. 7042/63. Heading D2A. A breast box for a paper-making machine comprises a mixing chamber 4 into which pulp flows from a distributor before flowing through a channel 5 into a compartment 6 having an open liquid surface 7 and an outlet 8 leading on to a machine wire 13. The open liquid surface in the compartment 6 is maintained at between 1.1 and 1.3 times the height of the channel 5. The distributor comprises individual pipes 2 connected to a feed pipe 1 and having flexible portions 3. It tapers from a rectangular inlet pipe 28 to a circular return pipe 29 that has a built-in regulating member. The distances A and B between rotatable perforated rollers 23, 24, 25 are 10-15 times the diameter of the perforations. The compartment 6 has spray nozzles 18 and a pipe 17 connected to a source of pressure or vacuum. The plate 10 of the outlet 9 at its upper end forms a sluice which is adjustable. The breast box can be moved towards the wire 13 by eccentric rollers 35 arranged to lift the base 30 off the foundation 31 on to rollers 34. Removable covers 26, 27 are provided for the chamber 4 and compartment 6.
