Abstract

23,524. Gay, A. E. Oct. 23. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Furs.-In a machine for pulling furs, the pelts are fed between a band 7, preferably of rubber-faced canvas carried over rollers 9, 8, and gut cords 21 carried over rollers 20 and grooves in the rollers 9, alternate series of cords lying in different planes. The rollers are driven by means of gearing from a countershaft carried by the frame. The pelts are carried past brushes 39<a>, and adjustable gauge plates 41 to beaters 37, which nip the fur against adjustable rubber-faced rolls 45 and pull the fur. The beaters 37 consist of cylinders, mounted on shafts 36 and carrying pieces of leather, preferably horse skin 38, fixed means of bars 39. Each beater and roll is enclosed in a dome 43 connected to a suction pipe, so that the pulled hairs are immediately carried away. To render the guide-rollers 8 adjustable, they are carried in bearings carried by hinged bars 46 provided with a set-screw 47 for locking in the adjusted position, the horizontal adjustment being made by sliding the blocks 48 in slots 49 provided in the base plate 50. The rotary brushes 39<a> are made adjustable by being mounted in the arms 51, which are slotted at their lower ends and secured to the frame by studs 53. The rollers 9 are adjusted by means of bearings 13, Fig. 9, which are formed in slotted blocks 54 held in the frame by a single nut and bolt.
