Abstract

676,582. Mine roof supports. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. July 26, 1950 [July 29, 1949], No. 18685/50. Class 20(ii). Mine roof supports are erected and advanced with the coal face by erecting a telescopic prop 1, Fig. 1b, with a head plate 2, e.g. as described in Specification 676,583, pivotally connecting at 3 by pin and hole one end of a distance member 4 to the head plate 2 and connecting at the other end a further head plate 5, swinging the member 4 and head plate 5 upwards to bring the latter against the roof as shown in Fig. 1c, making a second pin and hole connection at 8 to hold them in that position and subsequently erecting a prop 9, Fig. 1d, under the head plate 5. A further distance member and head plate may be connected to the head plate 5 and swung up and supported cantilever fashion even before the prop 9 is erected under the head plate 5. The head plate 5, Fig. 1b, is connected to the distance piece 4 by pin and hole connections 6, 7 and after erection of the prop 9,. Fig. 1d, the pins 7, 8 are removed to leave the distance piece 4 pivotally connected to both head plates 2, 5. Roof supporting girders 11, Fig. 3, are carried by brackets 10 on thehead plates and can slide in the brackets towards the coal face. Alternatively instead of the girders 11, the distance pieces may be adapted to support the roof between the head plates. Caving is effected after release of the prop by allowing the distance piece and connected head plate to swing downwardly towards the succeeding prop.
