Abstract
676,583. Pit props. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. July 26, 1950 [July 29, 1949], No. 18686/50. Class 20(ii). The head plate 1 of a pit prop 4 supports a roof girder 13 by means of a bracket 11, in which the girder 13 is longitudinally movable and which bracket can be detached from the head plate while the head plate is clamped against the mine roof. The girder 13 is forced by wedges 14 against the roof. The bracket 11 is attached to the webs 5 by a pin 12. The head plate 1 comprises symmetrically arranged pairs of webs 5 at right-angles to one another. In supporting the roof at the coal face a distance piece 8 is pivoted by a pin 9 between a pair of the webs 5 and a further head is fixed by two pins to the distance piece and swung against the roof where it is supported by inserting a second pin 10 thus leaving a prop-free coal face for mechanical cutting. The second head plate is later supported by a prop when the pins 10 are removed to allow articulation. There is a universal joint 3 between the head plate and the prop 4. Single webs may replace the pairs of webs 5 and the ends of the distance pieces be bifurcated to engage them. Specification 676,582 is referred to.
