Abstract

676,460. Hand trucks for transporting bricks. EVANS, P. N. Jan. 5, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1950], No. 746/50. Class 108(i) In a hand truck for transporting bricks the stack of bricks is gripped and carried between a pair of relatively movable jaws, opening and closing movement of which is effected by a screw threaded member. The truck comprises a floor 1, sides 2, handles 19, a main wheeled chassis 5 and an auxiliary wheeled chassis 18. Tubes 7, welded to the sides 2, each carry a rotatable shaft 8 having a jaw 6, for clamping the bricks, and a lever 9 attached to its respective ends. The inner end of each lever 9 is slotted to accommodate a pin 11 secured to a plate 12 welded to an internally threaded member 10, which is in threaded engagement with a shaft 14, mounted in a bearing 15 and formed with a handle 13 so that rotation of the handle will cause the jaws 6 to open or close. The diameters and wheelbase of the pairs of wheels 4, 17 are such that the truck may stand in a balanced position.
