Abstract

676,243. Protective arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., WHESSOE, Ltd., and FRANCOMBE, K. W. Nov. 28, 1950 [Nov. 29, 1949], No. 30560/49. Class 38 (iv). The output terminals 4 of apparatus, say a rectifier 1, feeding a high-tension load 5, such as an electrostatic precipitator, are automatically earthed or short-circuited by contacts 12 of a relay 3 upon failure of, or removal of, power supply to the apparatus 1, the relay having its coil energized from the supply and preferably having a further pair of contacts which complete the supply circuit to the input terminals 2 of the apparatus either directly (as shown), or through the intermediary of another relay, when the coil is energized. In the case of a precipitator, the relay 3 may be mounted inside the oil-filled sealing chamber for the high-voltage cable passing from the rectifier, the contact 12 being earthed and directly engaging the cable termination.
