Abstract
676,022. Road making machines. HAIGH, D. B. Jan. 18, 1951 [Oct. 27, 1949], No. 27555/49. Class 107 A machine for laying down pre-coated chippings on a road surface has a container 1 for cold roughly broken agglomerates of the chippings in which container a screw 3 feeds the material onto a conveyer band 5 which feeds it under hammers 6 operated by cams 9 to further break up the agglomerated chippings, after which they are fed down the chute 11 to applicator rolls 13, 14 one having a rubber facing, the other being of fluted metal and having a different peripheral speed, the rolls being urged together by springs. Guide bars 17 fitted with end plates 15 convey the chippings to the road. The end plates can be adjusted to vary the width of mat laid down. Front rolls 19, 20 are driven, the roll 20 being displaceable axially to suit the width of mat laid, and fixed roll 19 being adjustable to form a camber on the road surface. The rear roll 18 is steerable.
