684,919. Laying down materials. OLDING & CO., Ltd., J. July 16, 1951 [Aug. 14, 1950]. No. 20130/50. Class 107. A machine for laying down road chippings comprises a hopper 1 for the chippings disposed transversely of the machine and tapering to an outlet 4 at the lower end, and has a roller 11 extending along the outlet and rotating at a speed proportional to the rate of travel of the machine, e.g. by being geared to the road wheels or other rotatable supports. The roller bears a number of spaced projections 13 in rows on its periphery and these projections pass between the teeth of a pair of members 14 disposed at opposite edges of the outlet. Additional breaking rollers 18, 20, 24, 26 may be provided each with projections 13<SP>1</SP>. Members 14 may be of rubber or non flexible materials resiliently mounted. Screws 16 adjust the gap between the roller and teeth, to suit chippings of different sizes. According to the Provisional Specification the members 14 may be hinged or freely mounted at the lower end of the hopper and held in position by spring means, or they may be of rubber reinforced by thin sheet steel. The projections of the outlet roller may be similarly shaped to the teeth on members 14.
