675,354. Soaking pit covers. DETRICK CO., M. H. Dec. 1, 1950, No. 29516/50. Class 72 Sealing means for a soaking pit cover comprises a unit having a web extending downwardly to an edge and a shoulder adjacent the edge, and a protective heat resisting coating, at least partially supported on the shoulder, covering the faces of the web. As shown, a channel 40 is attached to an I-beam 32 forming part of the structure of a soaking pit cover and to the free flange of the channel there is attached a sealing unit comprising a web 42 the lower end of which has shoulders 48 which partially support a protective, heatresisting coating 45 such as chrome ore refractory. Studs 49 on the web assist in maintaining the coating in place. The spaces between the units are filled with the same refractory. An upwardly directed plate coated with refractory may be attached at its upper end to a web welded to the I-beam, Fig. 9, (not shown), or the channel 40 may be omitted and a longer refractory-coated unit may be directly attached to the I-beam, Fig. 11 (not shown).
