A sound proof floor has an uppermost layer 1 of parquet blocks bedded in a concrete layer 2 which is spread over a layer of juxtaposed insulating slabs 3, each of which may be made of a mixture of cement, alum, lime, cellulosic glue, vegetable oil,' clay, brick dust, fibrous material and potash, the slabs resting on a resilient layer 4 of glass fibre, goatskin or plush supported on he floor foundation 5. Instead of forming the floor in situ it may also be made by laying preformed slabs, each consisting of layers 1, 2 and 3, upon the resilient layer 4 which extends unbroken over the floor area.
