Abstract
402,845. Proofing permeable materials. ADAMS, W., and ADAMS, E. M., 62, Bolton Road, Pendleton, Manchester. June 14, 1932, No. 16758. [Class 140.] Building - materials such as bricks, tiles, concrete or cement blocks or slabs, wood and compressed fibrous materials are impregnated with a protective compound, such as asphalt of low fusing-point, e.g. 100-110‹ F., and then partly or wholly covered with a protective coating of normally solid hydrocarbonaceous material such as asphalt of relatively high fusing-point, e.g. 220-250‹ F, with or without fillers such as fibrous material, which may be applied to the brick &c. or incorporated in the asphalt. The coating may be applied by dipping or by pressure, with or without a mould. Alternatively the protective coating may be in the form of a sheet of high melting-point asphalt incorporating fibrous material saturated with low melting-point asphalt before incorporation. Bricks to be treated are preferably formed with a lap joint at each end and preferably at one side, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The treated bricks are suitable for damp courses or for building reservoirs.
