Abstract

672,900. Printing-machines. JONES, N. H., and JONES & CO., Ltd., S. March 29, 1950 [March 29, 1949], No. 8533/49. Class 100 (i). [Also in Group XVII] In a machine in which a web of paper or like material is slit to form strips which are subsequently rewound to form coils, the web 1 is fed from a roll 2 between a printing roller 17, driven at the same peripheral speed, and an impression roller 21 mounted on a spring- loaded lever 19 which is normally retained in the position shown by a latch 18. The web is then slit into strips by rotary knives 4, and the strips pass under a guide roller 5 to a winding device comprising rollers 8 and a resilientlyloaded, driven, friction roller 9 whereby they are rewound on a mandrel 7 to four individual coils 6. When the latch 18 is tripped, the lever 19 is controlled by a rotary cam 22 which allows printing to take place for a period such as to produce at the end of each coil 6 a printed length represented by. the thick line 23 slightly greater than the circumference of the coil, and then returns the lever to the "off position. The length 23 may carry a design incorporating a Trade Mark and is stuck down to completethe coil.
