668,668. Postmarking and like machines; cutting apparatus. UNIVERSAL POSTAL FRANKERS, Ltd., and PARFETT, F. Feb. 7 1950, No. 3152/50. Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] A machine for printing and issuing stamps, labels and the like comprises a rotary printing member 4 having dies 5, 6 for printing stamps and cancellation markings, and a resilient impression roller 20. The member 4 is manually rotatable by a handle, and at the opposite end of its shaft 7 from the handle is a knob for adjusting the value indication of the die 5. A gummed paper strip from a spool 12 passes under a plate 13 having a printing aperture 29 and is fed during printing by the member 4 and roller 20. A new strip is inserted between the plate 13 and a fixed member 19 over.knurled rollers on a manually rotatable shaft 24 mounted in vertical slots in the frame 2 and urged upwardly by a leaf spring 27. The feed is restrained by a roller 17 spring-urged against the strip on the spool.. Inking-mechanism is provided in a casing 10. Printing takes place during the first part of the rotation of the member 4, and the strip is fed to a device 41 for severing a printed part, the device 41 being actuated during the last part of the rotation of the member 4 by means of a cam 30 (see Group VIII). The strip is severed between the stamp impression and the cancellation made at one printing, leaving the leading end with a cancellation marking between the roller 20 and the severing device. The frame 2 is pivoted on the base 1 at 45 and is adjustable to vary the printing pressure by screws 46. Means are provided to release the handle for operation and to prevent rotation thereof stopping before a complete revolution. Specification 605,624 is referred to.
