Abstract

672,818. Windows. PLUMMER, H. T., HARRIS, R. E., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1950 [Dec. 21, 1949], No. 32758/49. Class 20(iii) A vertically sliding window 1, e.g. for a ship's deckhouse, is counterbalanced by an overhead spring drum 8, Fig. 3, to which it is secured by a cable at each top corner. The pulley 7 to which one cable is anchored is fast with the drum; the other pulley 7<SP>1</SP> for the other cable is adjustably secured thereto as by bolts b passing through flange 8a and slots in flange 7a, whereby any slackness of one cable or initial inequality in weight distribution upon the two cables may be eliminated. A tight fit in the closed position is ensured by the top of the window running up a cam 25, Fig. 4, on approaching closed position, and eccentrics 15, Fig. 6, on a shaft 14 extending between the sides of the stationary frame may be rotated to press a bar 21 against the window, to hold the latter in any selected position.
