Abstract
672,546. Gas purification. PHILLIPPS, I. H., and HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd. Jan. 10, 1951 [Feb. 9, 1950; Sept. 15, 1950], Nos. 3392/50 and 22779/50. Class 55 (ii). In a process of purifying gas, for example removing hydrogen sulphide from coal gas, particulate purification material, for example iron oxide, moves downwardly in container 12 and passes through a grating or grate-like mechanical feeding device 13 and the gas to be purified passes upwardly or downwardly between gas-permeable grids 14 and the conduits 17 and 18, the container 12 being periodically inverted about trunnions 15 so that purification material which has passed down through the grating 13 is brought above the grating during the purification of gas or may be only so moved before or after the passage of the gas being purified. The conduits 17 and 18 may be stationary and have gas-tight sliding connections with the container 12. More than one grating may be provided and a single grating may be so situated that the container is divided into two zones of unequal size. Two containers may be connected in series and be inverted simultaneously. Revivification of partially spent iron oxide may be effected in situ by passing air or oxygen through the container separately from or in admixture with the gas being purified.
