Abstract

1337270 Tin separation KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 23 Nov 1970 [21 April 1970] 55592/70 Heading C1A In a method of separating tin from a tincontaining raw material in which sulphurizing agents are present or added to the raw material, the raw material together with fuel and air is introduced into a cyclone reactor where the tin is converted into a bivalent volatile product (e.g. SnS) which is after burned in a chamber following the reactor and the resulting dust laden gases are cooled in filters to obtain a dust concentrate containing tin oxide. The raw material may be comminuted into particles having a maximum dimension of 3 mm. before being introduced into the reactor. The conditions may be such that the waste gases at the exit of the reactor contain carbon monoxide but are free of oxygen. The waste gases may also contain hydrogen. The reactor temperature is preferably above 1250‹ C. Sulphurizing agents include pyrites, sulphur, calcium sulphate or sulphidic tin concentrates. Additives containing calcium, e.g. lime or limestone may also be added to the tin containing raw material.
