Abstract

1281284 Treatment of sulphidic ores METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG and DEUTSCHE BABCOCK & WILCOX AG 12 Feb 1970 [13 Feb 1969] 6885/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] FeS, with Fe: S of 1: 0À7-0À9, is produced by injecting sulphidic iron ores tangentially at a number of points into a cyclone furnace whose axis is horizontal or has an inclination of up to 30 degrees which is cooled by water under pressure of at least 10 kgm./cm.<SP>2</SP>, and reacting the ore at at least 1100‹ C. with a gas having a D 2 content of at least 30%, if necessary, with addition of a small amount of fuel, the exhaust gas containing SO 2 and volatile impurities. The oxygen-containing gas may be preheated. Fuel may be injected at the tip of the furnace. The molten product may be granulated in a water trough.
