Abstract

672,041. Crop sprayers. PEARCH, L. C. Jan. 15, 1951 [Jan. 27, 1950], No. 2174/50. Class 69 (iii). A wheeled machine includes a centrifugal fan 15 which draws in air through an opening 17 in a rear casing 16 and forces it radially outwardly from its periphery, movable vanes 19 which adjust the air direction and spraying nozzles 43 arranged around the fan periphery which deliver liquid to the air current. The fan is carried at the rear of a liquid tank 13 on a shaft 11 driven by a power unit, not shown. The vanes are mounted on spindles 20 which carry chain sprockets 24, and in one embodiment, Fig. 2, all the vanes on each side of the machine are engaged by a chain 29 driven by a sprocket 30. Each vane may be disconnected from its sprocket by pulling back a keyed clutch member 28, Fig. 3, against the action of a spring 33 by rotating a screw 32 the end of which engages the end of the spindle. The vane can then be set at any angle by effecting the cooperation of notches in a flange 34 with a lug 35 on an angle iron 36. Alternatively, the boss 25 of the chain sprocket has a diametral slot normally engaged by a cross-pin on the spindle. The latter can be pulled back against a spring, turned and held by a bracket in the desired position. Valves may regulate liquid delivery from the nozzles, and maybe interlocked with the clutch devices. Specification 623,068 is referred to.
