Abstract
590,152. Insecticide distributors. PEST CONTROL, Ltd., DORMAN, A. K., and MARSHALL, E. J. April 16, 1945, No. 9461. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Groups XVIII, XXX and XL] In a machine for distributing insecticides in dust or powder form, a photo-electric cell 18 controls the opening and closing of a hopper outlet 12 which passes powder into an air duct where it is delivered to the plant by an air blast, the hopper outlet being opened when the photo-electric cell 18 is in the vicinity of a plant and closed when the cell leaves the said vicinity. As shown mounted on a wheeled vehicle the photo-electric cell 18 co-operates with a light source 21. A hopper 10 has a rotary agitator 11 and the powder is passed into the duct 8 by means of a reciprocating member 12, operated by an electromagnetic relay 17a, 17b, which is controlled by a relay 25 connected in circuit with the photo-electric cell. The air fan is driven by an internal combustion engine which also drives a dynamo 3. The cell 18 is kept at a fixed distance from the ground by skids 20, 23, a handle 27 operating to lift the cell and nozzle assembly clear of the ground for transport purposes. The machine may be used as a multi-row distributer. The hopper agitator 11 may be driven by the fan engine or by a separate source of power. The machine may be mounted on a tractor when the generator will be driven by the vehicle engine and the fan and agitator driven from the power take off provided on most tractors.
