Abstract

844,318. Crop sprayers. PEARCH, L. C. Jan. 23, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 2433/58. Class 69 (3). A unit for mounting on a tractor or trailer &c. includes an axial flow fan 10 within a casing 11 secured to a gear-box 12 connected by a shaft 13 to a power source. Air is drawn past a fairing 25 and stationary helical guides 27 in an annular passageway, and is diverted at right angles to the fan axis by a deflector 17 whereby it is emitted from an annular outlet 18. Adjustably mounted spring nozzles 20 fed by a vane pump 22 are located adjacent the fan outlet, the latter having its lower part masked by a shield 19. The fan is coupled to the driven shaft 14 by a centrifugal clutch 16 which cuts off the fan drive when the speed of the shaft 13 is low, and allows the fan to idle if the shaft 14 stops. The unit may be carried at the front of a trailer which supports a tank of spray liquid, and arranged with its air inlet facing forwardly; alternatively it is attached to the rear of a tractor by a three-point linkage which pivotally engages the gear-box.
