In a machine of the kind in which an axial-flow fan 12 is mounted in a casing 13 at the machine rear and drives an air current forwards against a deflector 29, whereby the air is discharged in directions substantially at right angles to the fan axis, the deflector is of hollow frustoconical form with its lower circumferential part cut away to accommodate a curved deflector plate 32, whereby air from the lower part of the fan casing is guided into the deflector interior and is delivered therefrom through channels 31 to join the main air discharge outside the deflector. The machine comprises a trailer carrying a tank 16 for the spray liquid which is fed to spraying nozzles 37 carried on pipes 38, and the fan casing has its forward end spaced from the tank near wall to provide the main air-discharge outlet. The deflector 29 has lugs 30 secured to the tank near wall, and its front edge is spaced therefrom to provide the air discharge channels 31. A tube 17 extending through the tank houses the fan drive shaft 18 and a bearing 19, and a split clamp 33 surrounds the tube and carries two hinge mountings 34 upon which two air-diverting blades 35 pivot. The positions of the latter are controlled by rods 36 and the blades are shaped to conform to the interior of the deflector 29 so that the air guided into the deflector can be deflected therefrom mainly to one or both sides of the machine. Stationary radial guide vanes 20 are secured to a hub 21, and are curved transversely in a direction opposite to that of the curvature of the fan blades 23, so that the fan delivers air to the deflector in a direction substantially parallel to the fan axis.
