839,265. Abrasive blasting. ASHWORTH, N. I. Nov. 3, 1958 [Nov. 2, 1957], No. 34261 /57. Class 60. An abrasive blasting appliance comprises a casing, an impeller rotor mounted in the casing, an opening in the side of the casing through which the abrasive is projected by the vanes of the impeller and a suction conduit passing from the side of the casing on which the vanes of the impeller move away from the opening. A casing 3 having a handle 15 encloses a vaned impeller rotor 1 driven by a flexible shaft 13 from an electric motor. Abrasive is supplied to the impeller through a flexible pipe 10, either by gravity or from a pressurised container, the abrasive passes to a nozzle 11, and the impeller may contain a secondary feed impeller. Abrasive is discharged through opening 7 in the casing surrounded by a screen 8 of bristles or rubber flaps. Spent abrasive is removed by suction conduit 14. The electric motor, abrasive container and apparatus for retrieving spent abrasive may be mounted on a wheel truck or carrier.
