Abstract

670,642. Washing-machines. SUTTON, A. M. Dec. 30, 1949 (Jan. 27, 1949], No. 2238/49.. Class 138 (ii). A washing-machine agitator adapted to be reciprocally rotated about a substantially vertical axis comprises at least two component beater parts adapted to be detachably and non-rotatably secured to an actuating shaft in any selected one of a series of axially-spaced positions. As shown, two identical castings 10 each having two blades 15 are bolted together to form the agitator. Each casting has a groove in its upper part, the two grooves together forming a hexagonal-shaped hole for an operating shaft. The shaft has a plurality of grooves machined round it so that the agitator may be positioned in a number of positions longitudinally of the shaft, bolts 19 engaging one of the grooves to locate it. The parts comprising the agitator need not be identical and more than two parts may be used. Specification 670,640 is referred to.
